
On Friday 26 September 2025, the President of the CPT, Alan Mitchell, and the CPT’s Executive Secretary, Hugh Chetwynd, met the Executive Director of Frontex (the European Border and Coast Guard Agency), Hans Leijtens and members of the Frontex senior management team, for an exchange of views on mutually relevant issues and to discuss future cooperation between the two bodies.
The CPT delegation was provided with a briefing on the current operations of Frontex and the challenges facing the organization. Particular reference was made to the exploitation of vulnerable persons and children by smuggling gangs and the efforts to identify and support persons at risk.
The CPT raised the issue of violent pushbacks across the borders of certain member states of the Europen Union. T
he meeting took place in Frontex Headquarters in Warsaw. The CPT delegation also met the Deputy Fundamental Rights Officer of Frontex, Grigorios Tsioukas.
