
Head of correctional colony detained for assisting in organizing criminal ‘meeting’ on the territory of the institution in Cherkasy region (Ukraine).
Under the procedural supervision of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Security Service of Ukraine exposed the fact of organizing and conducting a “meeting” in one of the correctional colonies of Cherkasy region (Ukraine).
The head of the prison was served a notice of suspicion of facilitating a criminal “meeting” for an informal criminal leader and six of his accomplices (Part 1 of Art. 255-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, a previously convicted resident of Uman city (Ukraine), who has the informal status of a “smotriaschij” in the criminal and prison environment, organized a “meeting” (shodka) on the territory of the prison in February 2024. It was held with the assistance and full support of the head of the prison1.
The criminal “meeting” was organized by the informal criminal leader at will to resolve conflicts, distribute and fill the “joint fund” with money received from the sale of drugs and gambling, as well as to distribute spheres of criminal influence, impose criminal rules and traditions.
The members of the “meeting” were prisoners and free men aged 33 to 56. Each of them had a high status in the criminal world. Most were natives of Cherkasy region, and one was from Kyiv.
At the time of this “meeting”, three were serving sentences for previous crimes, and the rest were accused of crimes. These included illegal possession of weapons, robbery, vehicle theft, etc. The organizer of the criminal “meeting” was charged with, among other things, preparing a premeditated murder and spreading criminal influence.
